The new mirror Chrome Paint manufactured by StardustColors is easy to apply and produces a bright chrome mirror like effect. It can be applied over numerous substrates, as soon as the substrates has been correctly surfaced and primed. The paint is destinated to automotive and decorative field.
Composition: 1 component ready to spray paint (alcoholic based)
Theoric coverage power : 6m²/L/Quart
Application : Air spraygun, airbrush. Pressure : 2 - 3 bars. 0.8 - 1mm.
Application Process:
Primer : The chrome paint must be applied over a hard, and clean substrate ( 2K PU/Urethane enamel, black clearcoated/ PE PP ABS Plastics). The substrate must have a glass like aspect and must be as glossy as possible in order the chrome effect to appear. The substrate must not be sanded or scuffed. It must not be degreased as well. It s recommanded to wipe it off with a dry, clean, non sticky cloth. In case of a paint basecoat, this one must be dried and hardened since at least 24 h.
Chrome paint : Shake well prior application. Avoid overcharged coats. Apply with a few very thin coats (like smog- Spray more air than paint) . Altern paint spraying and time keeping the air spraying and watching the chrome mirror effect appear on the surface while it s evaporating. Keep applying the paint until the maximum brightness is reached.
Drying/Curing : An extended drying period ( 7 to 10 days ) at room temperature is strongly recommanded to allow all the solvants (basecoat and chrome paint) to evaporate. Drying time can be reduced if the piece is baked at medium temperature of high temperature (up to 160°C) . Chrome paint is sensitive to clearcoat and will suffer a loss of mirror effect if basecoat and chrome paint are not completly dried, because the solvents of the clearcoat can affect the undercoats.
Clearcoat: Use a low Voc clearcoat (3:1 , 4:1 or 1K) . Start with two flash/very thin coats separated by 5min. After it s dried to touch, clearcoat normally.
Tinted clearcoats (CANDY) can be applied over chrome to produce a tinted chrome finishing.
Waterbased Stabilizer Application guide: This is a waterbased transparent product (0% VOC). It s not obligatory to use it, but the stabilizer can help preventing the mirror effect when the extended drying time is impossible. The stabilizer can be applied as a transparent intercoat in between the chrome paint and the clearcoat. It must be applied at least 24h after the chrome paint application. After completly dried (24h), it can be clearcoated (do not sans the stabilizer).
